Riverside Fire Department Saves Family Dog While Battling House Fire

This evening the City of Riverside Fire Department revived a family dog after responding to the report of a residential structure fire on the 4400 block of Lyon St.

Upon arrival the first arriving fire unit found a single story residential home with a working fire in the garage and attic area. The crews made an aggressive interior fire attack keeping the fire to the garage and attic area. A total of 17 firefighters responded.

The rescue crews found the family’s lifeless dog in the back bedroom closet. The crews provided medical treatment to the dog and were able to revive the homeowner’s family pet. All family members were located across the street and accounted for. Houses on both sides were protected and had no obvious signs of damage.

According to the Riverside Fire Department, there were four vehicles at the location that were badly damaged. Five occupants were displaced and the Red Cross was on-hand to assist the family. A SAVE card was issued by the fire department to help the family with any items that were immediately necessary.

 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

 

The Fire Department reported that one firefighter sprained his ankle during the incident and was treated at a local clinic.
