Body Found Floating In Riverside Pond

On Sunday, Nov. 15, at around 1:45 p.m., Riverside Police Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a body found floating in one of the Riverwalk ponds located off Pierce Street near Riverwalk Parkway.

Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the scene to try to provide medical assistance to the person found in the water.

Upon arrival, officers pulled the woman to the edge of the pond and discovered she appeared to not be breathing and she showed no signs of life, according to Sgt. Russel of the Riverside Police Department.

The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office was contacted and a deputy coroner responded and took custody of the deceased.

The Riverwalk, located along Riverwalk Parkway, is a water feature for the La Sierra University that also serves as a flood control channel. The water feature consists of approximately holds approximately 10,900 Kiloliters of water. The lakes and streams also serve as storage basins for the university’s irrigation water.

According to a press release from the Riverside Police Department the death was believed to be accidental, however the press release did not indicate why or how officers and detectives had come to that determination.

No other details are available pending the Coroner’s investigation and report.

Russell said the incident is being investigated as an accidental drowning death and that there did not appear to be any evidence of foul play at this point in their investigation.
