Coachella Shooting Incident Under Investigation

On Friday, November 20, at about 8:10 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Thermal station responded to the a report of a shooting incident that occurred in the area of Westerfield Way and Avenida Adobe, in the city of Coachella.

According to Sergeant Randy Vasquez, of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, investigators from the Thermal station responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Their investigation revealed two adult Hispanic male victims were driving in a vehicle west on Westerfield Way when the shooting occurred.

According to the victims, a black vehicle pulled alongside the victims at which time the passenger of the suspect’s vehicle fired multiple rounds from a handgun at the victim’s vehicle.

One or more rounds fired by the suspect struck the driver’s door of the victim’s vehicle. The victim’s fled the area, eluding the suspects and immediately reported the incident to the sheriff’s department.

Neither of the victims were injured during the shooting incident and the motive for the shooting is unknown at this time.

The victims described the suspect’s vehicle as a black compact car, similar to a Nissan Altima. There is no suspect information available at this time.

Vasquez wrote “This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call Investigator Ernie Lopez at (760) 863-8990, or they can call anonymously at (760) 341-STOP (7867). Citizens may also submit a tip using the Sheriff’s CrimeTips online form.”
