Earlier Training Blaze Rekindles, Ignites Inferno

JURUPA VALLEY – Tonight a controlled live training for fire fighters from earlier in the day rekindled, turning into to a massive residential fire that could be seen for miles.
On Nov. 30, just before 7:30 p.m. Cal Fire/ Riverside County Fire responded to reports of a structure fire in the 4000 block of Pedley Rd. just South of the 60 freeway.
First arriving fire personnel found a two-story home at the location completely engulfed in flames.
In a press release from Cal Fire/ Riverside County Fire, Jody Hagemann explained fire crews were at an abandoned residence that sits a top a hillside overlooking Jurupa Valley earlier in the day for a training burn. At some point after fire crews completed their training and left, the fire rekindled, causing the massive blaze.
According to Hagemann, 23 firefighters were needed from five engine companies to control the blaze. Additionally, one truck company was assigned to help fight the fire and control its advance.
Due to safety concerns, firefighters were forced to fight the blaze from the exterior, and primarily worked to suppress the fire to the one residence and not spread to the surrounding hills.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department were called in to assist with heavy congestion in the area, from those who wanted to try to get a closer look at the raging fire.
According to Mike Lange, of LoudLabs News, smoke from the fire could be seen for several miles and flames could still be seen coming from the home as of 9:00 p.m., as fire personnel worked to bring the fire fully under control.
As of this report, there had been no reports of injuries by citizens or firefighters.
