HEMET: Police Chief Brown assists in arrest of burglary suspect

HEMET – Following an early morning commercial burglary call, Hemet PD Police Chief Dave Brown assisted officers in tracking down and arresting a person suspected of being involved in the break-in.

On Jan. 20th, just before 7:00 a.m. the Hemet Police Emergency Communications Center received a call from an employee who had just arrived to work in the 600 block of east Florida Avenue. Upon arrival, the employee witnessed a subject exiting the business through a broken window. The suspect then fled the area on a bicycle, travelling East on Florida Avenue.

Officers responded to the business and confirmed a burglary had occurred and conducted an area check for the suspect. A short time later the employee saw the alleged suspect riding his bicycle in the 100 block of South Buena Vista St. and notified Hemet Police Dispatch.

Chief Brown, who was in the area assisting in the search for the suspect, made contact with the employee, while maintaining a visual on the burglary suspect. Based on the witness statements, Chief Brown directed officers to the location of the suspect.

As the suspect was riding his bicycle on South Inez St., officers converged on the location and apprehended the man, who was identified as Daniel Lozano, a 33-year-old transient from the Hemet area. The employee positively identified Lozano as the person he had seen fleeing the business following the burglary.

Officers conducted a records check on Lozano and learned he had an outstanding domestic battery warrant for his arrest. He was booked at Hemet PD and later transported to the Southwest Detention Center for commercial burglary and his warrant. Lozano was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
