Driver sheers off fire hydrant in Temecula

The driver of the vehicle that sheared off a fire hydrant in Temecula walked home after the accident but called 911 to report the accident a short time later. William Hayes / Loudlabs News – LLN
TEMECULA – Riverside County sheriff deputies assigned to the Temecula Police Station responded to a report of a single vehicle traffic collision at Butterfield Stage Road and Murrieta Hot Springs Rd in the City of Temecula. The wreck occurred Wednesday, June 22, at about 7:12 p.m.
Deputies arrived to find a red Chevy Camaro that had crashed into the dead end of Butterfield Stage Road. When the vehicle crashed, it sheared off a fire hydrant sending water into the air, along with rocks that broke out the back window of the vehicle.
According to witnesses, the female driver fled north through the field after the crash. Deputies, with the assistance of a bloodhound, started tracking the driver through the hills, while deputies were actively tracking the suspect.

About 45 minutes after the crash a person called in to report she was the driver of the vehicle and went home to call 911 to report the accident and she would stand by for a deputy to contact her.
The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
It had not yet been determined if alcohol or drug intoxication played a part in the accident.
