MORENO VALLEY: Officials investigating in-custody death

MORENO VALLEY – An inmate with a pre-diagnosed terminal illness died in custody  at Riverside University Health Systems Hospital, located at 26520 Cactus Avenue, in Moreno Valley, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Justin Rowan. The in-custody death occurred Monday, June 27, at 6:40 p.m.

Correctional staff from the Robert Presley Detention Center were providing security for an inmate who was admitted to the hospital on May 17, Rowan explained. The inmate succumbed to his illness Monday evening and medical staff pronounced him deceased. “There is no indication of foul play in this incident,” Rowan said.

Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Jurupa Valley Station, Robert Presley Detention Center, and the Coroner’s Bureau responded to conduct a death investigation. The inmate’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
