RIVERSIDE: Suspicious vehicle call leads to auto & identity theft arrest

RIVERSIDE – A man was arrested by Riverside police officers after a concerned citizen called 911 to report a suspicious vehicle Thursday, Oct. 27. The vehicle had been parked overnight in the area of Kirkmichael Circle and Lochmoor Drive in the Sycamore Canyon Park neighborhood of Riverside.

At the end of an investigation, officers arrested Glenn Schaal, 27, of Moreno Valley. He was booked into jail for auto theft with priors, identify theft and drug violations.

Patrol officers were dispatched to the area at about 5:50 a.m. regarding an occupied suspicious vehicle after a 911 caller told City of Riverside emergency dispatchers that a vehicle had been parked on the street all night. The caller also told dispatchers someone appeared to be sleeping inside the vehicle.

While officers were on the way to the location, dispatch determined the vehicle had been reported stolen. When the officers arrived they saw the stolen vehicle was occupied by a male and female. Officers safely detained the pair.

During a search of the stolen vehicle, officers located items related to identity theft and narcotics use. Officers conducted a records check that revealed the male occupant, identified as Schaal, had prior convictions for auto theft.

Based on their investigation and recovered evidence, officers arrested Schaal. The female was released without charges.

A jail records search revealed Schaal was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of being in possession of stolen property, false impersonation for monetary gain, petty theft with priors, and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice this morning, Oct 31.
