MECCA: Man drugged and raped victim, officials allege

MECCA – Sheriff’s officials announced the arrest of a man they allege drugged and raped a victim in October, 2016. The alleged suspect was arrested in the 91-000 block of 66th Avenue in Mecca Thursday, Jan. 26.

Erick Galvez was arrested after deputies served a search warrant at his residence.

The alleged suspect, who officials identified as Erick Ceja Galvez, 26, of Mecca, was arrested after a search warrant was served at the  66th Avenue residence, according to Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Jessica Vanderhoof.

The investigation began after sheriff’s officials from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Thermal station were notified regarding the sexual assault.

Upon contacting Galvez, investigators discovered he was in possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

After the service of the search warrant, deputies arrested Galvez. He was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. “He will be charged with drugging and raping the victim and the additional drug charges,” according to Vanderhoof.

An online jail records search revealed Galvez was cited and released within hours of his arrest.

  • HE drugged and RAPED a victim, and then was RELEASED within hours of his arrest?????? Oh, OK, it wasn’t considered a “Violent” crime because the victim may have been unconscious???
