RIVERSIDE: Man in critical condition after single-vehicle wreck

RIVERSIDE – A 26-year-old Riverside resident was left in critical condition after a vehicle the man was driving lost control and smashed into two palm trees and a utility pole Tuesday, Jan. 31.

The early-morning accident happened in the area of Brockton Avenue and Terracina Drive west of Evans Park in Riverside.

City of Riverside emergency dispatchers received multiple 911 calls about 2:16 a.m., from witnesses reporting the collision.

When Riverside Police and Fire personnel arrived at the location they located a 1986 Toyota Supra with major damage. The force of the impact uprooted a palm tree and left the driver of the vehicle with major traumatic injuries.

Officials have not released the victim’s name.

Firefighter/paramedics treated the victim at the scene before AMR medics transported him to an area hospital. He was listed in critical condition, according to a police official.

Officers from the Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the location to conduct an accident investigation to determine the cause of the wreck.

During their initial investigation, officials determined that the driver was traveling northbound on Brockton Avenue at a high rate of speed when his vehicle left the roadway.

After losing control and leaving the roadway, the car collided with two palm trees and a utility pole.

Brockton Avenue was closed for several hours while officials investigated the collision.

Alcohol and/or drug intoxication have not been ruled out as contributing factors in the collision, pending toxicology results.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
