RIVERSIDE: Pedestrian in critical condition after being struck by vehicle

RIVERSIDE – A pedestrian was left in critical condition after being struck by a motorist in an early-morning traffic accident Tuesday, Jan. 24. The collision happened at the intersection of Van Buren Boulevard and California Avenue, just east of Challen Park in Riverside.

City of Riverside emergency dispatchers received a 911 call about 5:32 a.m., from a citizen reporting the accident.

Riverside Police and Fire personnel responded to the traffic collision.

When officials arrived at the location they located the 39-year-old pedestrian who had been struck. The victim sustained major traumatic injuries in the collision.

Officials have not released the name of the victim.

Firefighter/paramedics treated the victim at the scene before AMR medics transported the man to Riverside Community Hospital. He was listed in critical condition.

Officers from the Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene to conduct an investigating into the cause of the accident.

During their preliminary investigation, officers determined that a Silver Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Van Buren Boulevard when it collided with the victim in the cross walk at California Avenue.

 

Evidence at the scene suggested that the pedestrian entered the cross walk against the traffic control device and the Honda Civic was proceeding through the intersection with a green light, according to a Riverside police official.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
