SAN JACINTO: Victim burned in residential blaze

SAN JACINTO – A victim was burned and sustained major injuries when a house caught fire Sunday, March 26. The early-morning residential blaze broke out just after midnight in the 400 block of Shaver Street in San Jacinto.

Twenty-six firefighters from seven engine companies responded to the fire, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer Tawny Cabral explained in an incident report. They were assisted by City of Hemet Fire Department, Soboba Fire Department, a breathing support unit and a paramedic squad.

“The first arriving engine company reported flames from a 1,000 square foot structure with one burn victim,” Castro wrote.

Firefighter/paramedics evaluated and treated the burn victim at the scene before American Medical Response medics transported the subject by ground ambulance to an area hospital.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and began sorting through the charred remains to determine the cause of the blaze, which as of this report had not been specified.

They then began extensive overhaul and mop up operations and were expected to remain at the scene for up to two hours.

Southern California Edison personnel were summoned to the scene to turn off utilities to the residence and assess fire damage to at least one pole in the area.

One neighbor, who lives near the house that burned, said the house had been vacant for at least the last seven years.

There were no other reported injuries related to this incident.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
