FRENCH VALLEY: 47-year-old, Murrieta resident ID’d after fatal Winchester Rd. wreck

FRENCH VALLEY – Coroner’s officials have identified a woman who died when her compact car smashed into the back of a large, 3-axle water tank truck that was parked along the side of Winchester Road, just north of La Alba Road, in an unincorporated area of Temecula. The fatal wreck happened across from French Valley Airport, Thursday, June 1, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

Coroner’s officials later identified the victim as 47-year-old, Lisa Jones, of Murrieta. After the accident, Jones was transported to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar. She was pronounced dead by hospital staff about one hour after the collision, just after 1 p.m.

Emergency first responders were dispatched to the deadly crash just after noon, when multiple motorists and witnesses called 911 to report the crash.

When they arrived, fire and police officials found a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse that had plowed into the back of a parked 2001 International truck.

The driver, later identified as Jones, had sustained major, traumatic injuries in the accident.

Firefighter/paramedics treated Jones at the scene before American Medical Response medics transported the gravely injured victim to IVMC, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

CHP officers investigated the cause of the fatal collision.

During their investigation, officers determined Jones was traveling northbound in the number one lane on Winchester Road when, for an unknown reason, she suddenly veered to the right towards the right shoulder of the roadway, CHP Public Information Officer Mike Lassig explained after the deadly wreck.

“The unsafe turning movement caused (the Mitsubishi’s) front end to collide into the rear of a legally parked, three-axle, tank truck, which was on the right shoulder,” said Lassig.

According to witnesses, Jones was traveling about 50 mph when the fatal accident happened.

No lanes of travel were blocked or affected during the collision investigation.

CHP Temecula Area officers are investigating the cause of the crash. Their investigation is ongoing.
