WINCHESTER: Firefighters knock down quick spreading vegetation fire

WINCHESTER — More than eighty firefighters spent about thirty minutes knocking down a quick spreading vegetation fire that charred nearly seven acres, Monday, Oct. 23. The fire broke out along the north side of Domenigoni Parkway near Patterson Avenue in Winchester.

Firefighters from seven engine companies and one truck company responded to the fire just after 4 p.m., Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer Jody Hagemann explained in an incident report. They were assisted by three inmate fire crews, a water dropping helicopter and a bulldozer.

A fire investigator also assisted with a subsequent investigation into the cause of the fire.

The fire forced the closure of the number two westbound lane of Domenigoni Parkway, according to Hagemann. As a result of the fire and partial road closure, traffic on westbound Domenigoni Parkway backed up for more than a mile.

Although firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, resources remained at the scene for another two hours conducting extensive overhaul and mop up operations.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
