City of Hemet Police and Fire officials along with other emergency first responders rushed to the scene of the accident about 5:42 p.m., after other motorists and witnesses called 911 to report the deadly wreck.

911 callers told emergency dispatchers that one of the victims was seriously injured and trapped inside a black, Hyundai Accent. The other vehicle was described as a white, Ford Ranger pickup truck.

When officials arrived at the scene, they located the Ford truck in the center of Warren Avenue and the Hyundai had come to rest against a chain-link fence on the dirt shoulder along the side of Warren Road. Both vehicles had sustained major, front-end damage and vehicle parts and debris were strewn across the roadway blocking both lanes of traffic.

Firefighter/paramedics immediately began assessing and treating those involved in the collision and determined the driver of the Hyundai had sustained major, traumatic injuries. Officials requested a Mercy Air Ambulance to the scene to transport the critically injured Hyundai driver, who was still trapped inside the mangled wreckage of their vehicle.

Firefighters determined they would need to perform a cut and rescue operation to free the victim from the Hyundai and began setting up the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the driver from the car.

While firefighters treated the victims and worked to extricate the critically injured Hyundai driver, officers began investigating the cause of the crash and called for the temporary closure of Warren Road, to ensure the safety of officials working at the scene.

As officials were preparing for Mercy Air to land on Warren Road and firefighters worked to free the trapped driver, the victim succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officials have not released the victim’s name, pending further investigation and notification of the person’s family.

The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries, according to officials at the scene and was transported by ground ambulance to Riverside University Health Care in Moreno Valley.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
