MORENO VALLEY: Report of shooting suicide leads to “suspicious death” investigation

MORENO VALLEY — Sheriff’s homicide investigators are heading up an investigation into what officials are calling a “suspicious death” after deputies responding to reports of a suicide found evidence that led their investigation in a different direction. Citing their ongoing investigation, officials have released very few details other than to confirm they are investigating the Sunday, Mar. 18 death.

Sunday’s suspicious death was just one of three deaths over a three-day period being investigated by homicide investigators. Two of those incidents – including one Saturday where a man killed his girlfriend inside the woman’s apartment and another on Monday where a man fatally stabbed his wife. Both alleged murders resulted in the arrests of the alleged suspects.

City of Moreno Valley Police and Fire officials responded to a home on the 21000 block of Calle Prima, northeast of Morton and Box Springs Roads shortly after 2 p.m., after receiving a 911 call reporting that a man had committed suicide at the residence.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Moreno Valley Police Station arrived at the home within minutes and “found an adult male inside the residence with a fatal gunshot wound,” Riverside Sergeant Wallace Clear explained as the investigation was getting underway.

“Based on circumstances at the scene, investigators from the Moreno Valley Police Department and the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit assumed the investigation,” said Clear, who advised no further information would be released pending further investigation.

The sheriff’s investigation is ongoing and officials have asked that anyone with information regarding this incident contact Investigator Gore at the Moreno Valley Police Department at (951) 486-6700 or Investigator Moody at the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777.
