MENIFEE — A person who was reportedly walking in the lanes of traffic was struck and killed early Wednesday morning, Mar. 21. The deadly accident happened in the area of Murrieta Road and Floyd Avenue, between Ethanac and McLaughlin Roads, in Menifee.

City of Menifee Police and Fire personnel along with other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after 4 a.m., after the driver called 911 to report the accident, Riverside County Sheriff’s Sergeant K. Lamb explained after the deadly crash.

Officials began arriving at the scene within minutes and reported finding a pedestrian down in the roadway.

“Life saving measures were attempted; however, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Lamb explained.

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Menifee Police Station’s Traffic Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation, which is active and ongoing.

During their initial investigation Traffic Team members determined the driver had been traveling “northbound on Murrieta Road and struck the victim who was walking in the middle of the lane,” Lamb explained.

The pedestrian’s name has not be released, pending notification of the victim’s family.

“At this time, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision,” said Lamb.

During their investigation deputies called for the full, temporary closure of Murrieta Road and all morning commuter traffic was diverted onto other area roads. The roadway remained closed for several hours.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Officer Fraley of the Menifee Traffic Team at (951) 210-1000. Callers can refer to incident file number ME180800005 and can remain anonymous.
