Motorcyclists killed in early morning head-on collision with truck on Ramona Expressway

NUEVO — Details are beginning to emerge after two motorcyclists were killed when their motorcycle collided head on into an oncoming truck early Friday morning, May 25. The deadly collision happened along a sweeping curve on Ramona Expressway at Martin Street in Nuevo, according to CHP officials.

CHP and Riverside County Sheriff’s officials along with other emergency first responders were dispatched to the scene of the fatal accident shortly before 3:45 a.m., after a person called 911 to report the wreck.

“The first arriving engine company reported a head-on traffic collision involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle … with a total of three patients,” Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire spokesperson April Newman explained in an incident report.

Both the motorcycle rider and passenger succumbed to their injuries and officials pronounced both deceased at the scene.

Neither of the victims have been identified pending further investigation and notification of their families.

The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital. The victim’s injuries were described by fire officials as minor.

During their investigation, CHP called for the temporary, full closure of nearly four miles of Ramona Expressway, between E. Rider Street in Perris and Lakeview Avenue in Nuevo. Although the roadway was re-opened about four hours later – shortly before 7:45 a.m. – the closure reportedly created a traffic nightmare for early morning commuters forced to find an alternate route to their destinations.

CHP investigation into the fatal collision is active and ongoing and officials have not yet stated what might have caused the wreck or if alcohol or drug intoxication were believed to have been contributing factors in the crash.

This is a developing story that will be updated when new information is available.
