Deputies assigned to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station responded to the home just after 3 p.m., after receiving reports of a possible burglary in progress, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Jeff Reese said after the arrest. The 911 caller reported they had noticed obvious signs of forced entry when they arrived home.

When deputies arrived they established a perimeter around the residence and entered the residence, at which time they discovered a 22-year-old, Lake Elsinore area transient later identified as Ian Michael Robert Newman, inside the home.

“Newman was apprehended while in the process of packing stolen items into bags and attempting to flood the residence,” Reese explained. A Perris Station K-9 was used to check the entire residence but nobody else was found inside the home.

Based on their investigation deputies arrested Newman and he was booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center in Banning on suspicion of first degree burglary and two felony counts of vandalism. He remains in custody on $35,000 bail.
