Deputies were dispatched to the area about 10:50 p.m., after receiving reports of “shots fired,” Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Ben Ramirez later said of the incident.

When deputies arrived they located a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and in traumatic full arrest. Officials immediately requested paramedics to the scene to treat the critically injured victim. AMR rushed the man to an area hospital with CPR and other life-saving efforts in progress, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to Ramirez.

Deputies secured the area, cordoning off a large area with caution tape and designating the entire area a crime scene. They then requested additional personnel and resources to the location to assist with the investigation.

Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit and Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s investigators soon arrived and assumed the investigation.

As the homicide investigation was getting underway, officials learned a second man who was also suffering from gunshot wounds had been brought to another local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Investigators quickly determined that based on witness statements and evidence located at the scene that both victims were shot during the same incident.

The deceased victim’s name has not been released, pending further investigation and notification of the man’s family. The second victim, a 20-year-old man, remains hospitalized and his condition has been listed as stable.

Forensic technicians from the Sheriff’s Forensic Services Bureau along with other officials were later seen searching for, documenting, photographing, and collecting, various items of evidence.

The Sheriff’s investigation is ongoing and Ramirez said officials would not be releasing any further information or details at this time.
