A Siskiyou County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the area shortly before noon last Wednesday, after receiving reports of “possible human remains” found by a 911 caller. When the deputy arrived, he confirmed the remains were those of an adult male.

The victim was later identified as Kevin Randall Gibbs, 31, of Marysville, Ca. Marysville lies just east of Yuba City, between the Feather and Yuba rivers.

Gibbs had been reported as missing to Marysville Police Department last January. Although the man’s vehicle, a blue Ford Focus, had previously been found near Independence Creek, a search of the area at the time failed to locate Gibbs or any other evidence.

The remains of missing Marysville, CA man, Kevin Gibbs, was found near Happy Camp last Wednesday, May 1. His death has since been ruled a suicide.

According to a Siskiyou County Sheriff’s social media release after the remains’ discovery, “a firearm and personal belongings were located in vicinity of the decedent’s remains” and SCSO’s investigation, “which included an analysis of autopsy results, concluded Mr. Gibbs died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

SCSO Sheriff Jon Lopey later offered his condolences to Gibbs’ family, writing on social media, “On behalf of the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, I would like to offer our thoughts and prayers to the decedent, his family, and friends in the aftermath of his death.”

Anyone with further information or additional details about this case is urged to contact SCSO’s 24-hour Dispatch Center at (530) 841-2900. Callers can remain anonymous.
