Redding police officers responded to 1259 Market St. around 5:25 p.m. after a woman, later identified as 25-year-old Sandi Garfias-Franco called 911 to report that she had just stabbed her husband, Redding Police Sergeant Todd Cogle later reported.

When officers arrived they found a male victim wearing only a t-shirt who had been stabbed and slashed multiple times. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was rushed to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Officers found Garfias-Franco inside a nearby apartment, where she was detained for questioning in the knife attack.

“Investigators learned that Garfias-Franco and the victim were married but had been experiencing troubles with their relationship,” Cogle explained after the incident. “The victim was visiting Garfias-Franco’s apartment when an argument broke out.”

At some point during the heated exchange, Garfias-Franco “without warning” pulled out a folding knife and began stabbing the victim in the back “and slashed his throat,” according to Cogle.

After being stabbed and slashed repeatedly, the bloody victim managed to flee Garfias-Franco’s apartment wearing nothing but his t-shirt, and he was assisted by nearby citizens.

During questioning, Garfias-Franco provided investigators with “inconsistent statements regarding what led to the stabbing,” according to Cogle, who said officers ultimately arrested the woman for attempted murder. She was later booked into Shasta County Jail.
