REDDING — Officers conducting extra patrol at the Redding Rodeo Grounds arrested two people, including a juvenile, after the pair was found to be in possession of a stolen handgun and other stolen property early Sunday morning, June 16. Redding PD had beefed up security and patrol around the grounds and surrounding areas after several recent burglaries had been reported, according to officials.

A Redding police officer first noticed several people involved in suspicious activity at the rodeo grounds shortly before 3 a.m., Redding Police Corporal Jeff Schmidt later reported.

The officer made contact with four subjects, including three adults and a juvenile, who had been seen milling around several cars at the location.

“The subjects were extremely nervous and Officer McGinnis was able to see illegal drug paraphernalia inside the cars,” Schmidt explained. “All four subjects were detained while a search of the cars was conducted.”

During the subsequent search, the officer discovered a loaded revolver under the seat of one of the vehicles. A records check revealed the revolver had been reported stolen from a residence in Tehama County.

Other suspected stolen property was also located inside the car and the rightful owners have already been identified, according to Schmidt; who said officers will be conducting follow-up with the victims to return their property.

Two of the subjects, Anthony Cloyd, 21, of Redding, and a 17-year-old from Redding, admitted having knowledge of the gun being in the car, according to Schmidt. Both were arrested for possession of the stolen firearm.

Based on the officer’s investigation, Cloyd was later booked into Shasta County Jail and the juvenile was booked into Shasta County Juvenile Hall.
