UPDATE: Second child dies after solo-vehicle San Jacinto crash

SAN JACINTO — A second child has passed away after a deadly, solo-vehicle crash in San Jacinto that happened Friday morning, July 12. One adult and three children were inside the car when the fatal accident happened around 8:30 a.m., on Sanderson Ave., just north of Cottonwood Ave.

Officials had previously reported that one of three children inside a Scion coupe had passed away after being rushed to Riverside University Health System Medical Center’s Trauma Center in Moreno Valley for advanced life-saving efforts.

According to Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Bryan De Loss, the second child passed away at RUHS this evening at 5:11 p.m.

Officials have not provided any updates on the driver of the car or the third child, who were both seriously injured in the accident.

Neither victims have been identified yet and the sheriff’s investigation into the cause of the fatal crash is ongoing.

SAN JACINTO — A woman with three children in her vehicle was involved in a deadly crash in San Jacinto yesterday morning, Friday, July 12. One of the children inside the car was killed in the solo-vehicle crash, which happened in the area of Sanderson Ave., just north of Cottonwood Ave.

Deputies assigned to the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station, along with Cal Fire and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the fatal crash about 8:38 a.m., after receiving reports of a major injury traffic collision, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Bryan De Loss later reported.

When officials arrived, they found a woman and three children who had been seriously injured in the crash. At least two of the victims were found in critical condition and after pulling the four from the wrecked car paramedics immediately began CPR and other life-saving efforts.

Based on one of the victim’s injuries, officials requested an air ambulance to the scene. However, they later cancelled the helicopter’s response and rushed all four victims to Riverside University Health System Medical Center’s Trauma Center in Moreno Valley for advanced life-saving efforts.

Despite their efforts, one of the children succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical professionals at the hospital.

The victim’s name and age have not yet been released, pending further investigation.

Based on the circumstances, San Jacinto PD’s Traffic Reconstruction Team members responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

During their preliminary investigation deputies determined the vehicle, described as a burgundy Scion coupe, was traveling northbound on Sanderson Ave when, for an unknown reason, the driver veered to the right causing her vehicle to leave the roadway. The small car then smashed into a drainage culvert along the side of the roadway, causing major damage to the vehicle.

Although the investigation is ongoing, De Loss said alcohol and or drug intoxication do not appear to be factors in this collision.

While officials worked at the scene they called for the temporary closure of Sanderson Ave., between Ramona Expressway and Cottonwood Ave. The roadway was re-opened several hours later.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
