Deputies from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station, along with about a dozen Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters and AMR medics, were dispatched to the scene about 2:55 a.m., after receiving reports of a motorcycle and car that had collided at the intersection, Riverside Sheriff’s Corporal Lionel Murphy has since reported. 911 callers reported the rider was down on the ground and that a fire had erupted after the collision.

When officials arrived they found the fiery wreck and discovered the rider still down in the roadway and unresponsive, according to Murphy, who said, “Despite life saving measures by Cal Fire, the rider was declared deceased.”

The motorcyclist who perished at the scene has not yet been identified, pending further investigation and notification of the victim’s family.

Firefighters spent about ten minutes extinguishing the blaze caused by the accident, according to a Cal Fire social media release.

Based on the circumstances, members of Jurupa Valley Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and assumed the investigation.

During their preliminary, on-scene investigation deputies determined that just before the collision the motorcyclist had been traveling eastbound on Belgrave Ave. approaching Van Buren Blvd. At the same time, the driver of a Honda was traveling southbound on Van Buren Blvd. approaching the intersection.

According to witnesses and evidence at the scene, the rider failed to slow down or stop for a red light at the intersection, “and entered the intersection against a red light,” explained Murphy.

The driver of the Honda remained at the scene of the deadly crash and was cooperative with the sheriff’s investigation.

Neither drug or alcohol intoxication appear to be contributing factors in the collision, and the sheriff’s investigation is ongoing, according to Murphy.
