Anderson homeless encampment sweep nets 34 arrests

ANDERSON — Authorities in Anderson say 20 homeless encampments were identified and 34 people were arrested during a two day illegal encampment sweep that began Aug. 23 and ended the following morning.

According to officials, the operation targeted illegal homeless encampments on public and private property, with an emphasis on camps located within close proximity to local waterways.

During the early morning hours of Friday and Saturday, officers assigned to Anderson PD’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit teamed up with the department’s Patrol Division, and Community Service Officers, along with members of the Anderson Fire Department, City of Anderson Code Enforcement, Shasta County Probation Department, and Shasta County Sheriff’s Custody Division to conduct the targeted sweeps.

During the operation, officials identified and located a total of 20 illegal encampments, Anderson PD officials announced earlier today in a social media release. Countless people were contacted during the operation, which ultimately resulted in 34 people being arrested for a wide variety of charges.

Officials say the sweep resulted in the following:

  • 2 people arrested for outstanding felony warrant(s)
  • 21 people arrested for misdemeanor warrant(s)
  • 3 people arrested for probation or parole violations
  • 26 people arrested for unlawful camping
  • 8 people arrested for polluting the area’s waterways
  • 8 people arrested for narcotics-related offenses
  • 12 people arrested for trespassing

After the successful sweep, officials made arrangements with various community organizations to assist in the clean up of the illegal encampments.

Trevor’s assignments included Corrections, Patrol, DUI Enforcement, Boat and Personal Water-Craft based Lake Patrol, Off-Road Vehicle Enforcement, Problem Oriented Policing Team, and Personnel/Background Investigations. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 28 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 15 – but soon to be 16 – grandchildren.
