Riverside County sheriff’s deputies were first alerted to the incident around 3:30 pm, after receiving reports of a stabbing involving a Hemet High School student that happened  near the school’s campus, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Gerardo Barba reported after the incident.

During their investigation deputies learned two previously expelled Hemet High School students engaged in mutual a fight.

“During the fight, the adult brother of one of the juveniles involved began fighting with a juvenile bystander,” Barba explained. “During the altercation, the adult male chased the juvenile approximately 30 feet while holding a large knife, stabbing the juvenile in the upper torso before fleeing on foot westbound on Stetson Ave.”

A passerby who noticed the large gathering stopped to render aid to the injured juvenile. The good Samaritan then drove the victim back to the nearby high school, where he was treated before being transported to Riverside University Health System in Moreno Valley for further treatment.

With the cooperation of Hemet High School administration along with anonymous students, deputies identified the alleged suspect as Angel Medrano, 26, of Hemet, according to Barba; who said enough evidence was obtained to charge Medrano with attempted murder of the juvenile.

Medrano is currently being sought at this time.
