Perris’ first dog park to open after City receives $25,000 grant

PERRIS — The City of Perris will hold a grand opening and ribbon-cutting event to celebrate the new PetSafe® Paws Dog Park on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The three-acre dog park was made possible through the PetSafe® Bark for Your Park™ program, which provides funding to create safe, off-leash dog parks nationwide.

Since 2011, PetSafe® brand has donated over $1.6 million as part of their nationwide Bark for Your Park™ campaign, which has helped fund 81 off-leash parks around the country.

According to City of Perris staff members the new dog park “will have a dedicated area for pets and pet parents to form a special community. In addition to providing a space for owners to share tips, advice and experiences with one another, their pets will also have a safe place to socialize.”

Perris was one of eight communities selected nationwide to receive a $25,000 grant to fund the new dog park. That grant, along with $75,000 funded by the City, will allow for a safe place where pooches and their two-legged parents can frolic, exercise and bond with each other and fellow canine-loving families.

Previously, all dog parks were located outside of the city. The PetSafe® Bark for Your Park™ grant supported the revitalization of an underutilized park in a residential community, located on Blazing Star Dr., on the city’s north end.

Perris’ new dog park will feature all sorts of exciting equipment for area residents to bring their dogs to play on, in, and around with their furry friends.

The PetSafe® Paws Dog Park will feature furry-friendly amenities including small and large dog sections, a dog walk, hoops to jump through and other agility equipment for dogs to play on, a training platform, shade structures, a grooming table, benches, doggie fountains, and pet waste stations.

And of course, what dog park would be complete without that favorite relaxation spot – a fire hydrant.

With the new space, the City hopes to encourage a pet-friendly community through events and programs that encourage healthy habits between pets and owners, as well as offer low-cost veterinary services.

“We know how much Perris residents love their dogs and we expect the dog park to attract many, many pets and people,” said Recreation Coordinator Josh Estrada, one of the team working on the project. “We want folks to get outdoors with their dogs so both can enjoy a healthy lifestyle.”

All vaccinated dogs and their owners are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 3:45- 5:45 p.m. The park is located at 1265 Blazing Star Drive, Perris, CA 92571.
