MENIFEE — A Long Beach man is in custody after officials allege he shot another man last Thursday evening, Dec. 5. The shooting, which left the victim with non-life threatening injuries, happened in a residential Sun City neighborhood on the 27000 block of Boston Dr., southeast of Chambers Ave. and Murrieta Rd.

Perris Station deputies began investigating the attempted murder around 9 p.m., after receiving reports of a shooting, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Hamilton reported yesterday. Sources indicate multiple 911 callers reported hearing several gunshots and a woman screaming for help.

“Deputies arrived within minutes and located an adult male with a gunshot wound,” explained Hamilton. “He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for his injury.”

Based on the circumstances, members of Perris Station’s investigations Bureau responded to the scene and assumed the investigation, as a sheriff’s helicopter circled overhead and deputies canvassed the surrounding neighborhood for potential witnesses or evidence related to the incident.

During their investigation, officials developed leads and gathered information that led them to identifying Antonio Corleon Jimenez, a 21-year-old Long Beach resident, as the person they say shot the victim. The victim’s name has not been publicly released.

As the investigation continued, deputies enlisted help from the United States Marshals Service and quickly tracked Jimenez to Long Beach, where he was apprehended at an unspecified location on W. Broadway the day after the shooting.

After his arrest, Jimenez was transported back to Riverside County, where he was booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of attempted murder.

Jail records indicate Jimenez remains in custody on $1 million bail and was scheduled to be arraigned this morning at Riverside’s Hall Of Justice.
