Attempted MoVal bank robbery leads to arrest

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. — Authorities arrested a man they allege attempted to rob a Moreno Valley bank inside a Stater Bros grocery store located at the Lakeside Plaza Friday morning, April 24.

According to officials the alleged suspect was unsuccessful in obtaining any money from the bank after the branch manager intervened, causing the man to flee empty handed.

Deputies from the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station were first alerted to the situation around 10:30 a.m., after receiving reports of an attempted robbery at US Bank, located inside Stater Bros on the 25900 block of Iris Ave., Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Jose Ayala reported after the incident and arrest.

Employees told responding deputies that the suspect entered the bank and passed a note to a bank teller, indicating he would “blow up” the bank if he did not receive a large sum of money.

At some point the bank manager intervened, causing the suspect to flee the location in a silver sedan.

Based on the circumstances, Moreno Valley PD’s Robbery Burglary Suppression Team assumed the investigation and utilized several investigative techniques, including Moreno Valley’s city-wide surveillance system, to gather information and develop leads.

“Through the diligent work of the Robbery Burglary Suppression Team, as well as the assistance of the US Bank employees, the suspect was identified as Anthony Dwayne Fucher, a 30-year-old resident of Moreno Valley,” explained Ayala.

Based on their investigation, at 10 p.m. the next evening, members of Moreno Valley PD’s Special Enforcement Team assisted the station’s Robbery Burglary Suppression Team in serving a search warrant at a residence on the 29000 block of Alicante Ave, in Moreno Valley.

“During the service of the search warrant, Fucher was taken into custody and evidence related to the crime was recovered from his residence,” said Ayala.

After his arrest, Fucher was transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, where he was booked on suspicion of attempted second-degree robbery and second-degree burglary.

Online jail records indicate Fucher remains in custody in lieu of $30,00 bail or bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Riverside’s Hall Of Justice, April 29.
