Deputies began investigating the shooting after video began circulating on social media that showed a violent physical altercation at the Eastvale park, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Armendariz reported earlier today.

“The video clearly depicts numerous male and female adults engaged in a physical altercation, which ended up in a shooting with one person shot suffering a non-life-threatening injury,” explained Armendariz.

“At the time of the initial investigation, it was believed the shooting was possibly gang related; however, no suspects were initially arrested or identified,” the Sgt. continued.

After the deputy assigned to the parks within the city of Eastvale was made aware of the video, he and deputies assigned to the Jurupa Valley Special Enforcement Team (SET) immediately began the process of trying to establish the identity of the victims, as well as potential witnesses and any suspects involved in the shooting.

Based on their subsequent investigation and with help from the social media video of the incident, deputies positively identified the gunman as 18-year old, Alprentice Caleb Young, of Eastvale.

On June 17, around 5 p.m., SET deputies spotted Young traveling westbound on 65th St. near Sumner Ave., and conducted a felony stop.

After being detained, deputies found Young was in possession of a loaded firearm.

As their investigation continued into the evening of the 17th, deputies executed overnight search warrants at Eastvale homes on the 13500 block of Gray Hawk Ct. and the 6500 block of Acey St.

“Multiple items of evidence related to the shooting, including a firearm were seized,” explained De Leon; adding, “Efforts to locate additional suspect as well as other persons of interest in this investigation are ongoing.”

Based on their investigation, deputies arrested Young and he was later booked into Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a loaded firearm.

Online jail records indicate Young was released the same day he was booked after posting $25,000 bail or bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Riverside Hall of Justice, Oct. 19.
