SJ man, 52, undergoes emergency surgery after brutal attack

SAN JACINTO, Calif. — Authorities say a violent attack in San Jacinto left a 52-year-old man with serious injuries that required emergency surgery Thursday evening, June 18.

Although officials have released few details about the incident, which happened inside a private residence on the 1000 block of Evans St., between Las Rosas Dr. and S. Hewitt St., deputies arrested a man they say inflicted the victim’s major injuries.

San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station deputies were dispatched to the home shortly before 8 p.m., after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. C. Burden later said of the incident.

When deputies and other emergency personnel arrived they found the 52-year-old victim with serious injuries inside the residence.

“The victim was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital where they underwent emergency surgery,” explained Burden, who did not specify the nature or extent of the victim’s injuries or what may have led to his brutal attack.

The alleged suspect, later identified as 25-year-old, Andrew Glen Almaraz, of San Jacinto, fled the location before deputies arrived, according to the Sgt.

Deputies began searching the area for Almaraz, and soon developed leads and gathered information that led to Almaraz’s discovery about a block away, near the intersection of Las Rosas Dr. and Evans St. He was taken into custody without further incident, according to Burden.

Deputies transported Almaraz to Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta, where he was booked on suspicion of attempted murder.

Jail records indicated Almaraz remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail or bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at an unspecified court June 23.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to call Deputy Trejo at the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station at (951) 654-2702. Callers can refer to incident file number I201700089 and can remain anonymous.
