SHINGLETOWN, Calif. — Officials today formally named Daun Eric Sanders, 53, of Shingletown, as the man they believe was responsible for a triple shooting in Shingletown yesterday. The deadly encounter left two people dead at the scene and a third victim critically injured and clinging to life at a Redding hospital.

In the chaotic aftermath of the deadly incident, personnel from Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, Redding Police Department, California Fish and Game, and California Highway Patrol descended on the Shingletown area and began an intensive manhunt that continued throughout the evening and is continuing today.

However, despite an exhaustive, overnight search that included SWAT members, tactical armored rescue vehicles, helicopters, and unmanned drones, Sanders has not yet been located.

“It is believed he fled in a dark colored pickup truck prior to deputies’ arrival,” Shasta County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit Sgt. Kyle Wallace reported in one of several press releases issued since the double homicide.

“Sanders should be considered armed and dangerous,” Wallace continued; saying, “We ask the public not to confront Sanders. If he is located, please call 9-1-1.”

Officials were initially dispatched to the end of Gail Ln. off Dersch Rd. just after 11 a.m., after receiving reports of gunfire in the area with multiple victims, according to radio traffic from the involved agencies.

A blue pickup was possibly involved in the shooting and was last seen fleeing toward Dersch Rd., according to the original 911 caller.

Early and unconfirmed reports from the scene, as well as scanner traffic, indicate that two victims may have already passed away from their injuries, while a third victim was reportedly rushed to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, with a possible gunshot wound to the head.

No additional information about any of the victims was immediately available.

Witnesses and residents who live in the area where the law enforcement activity is continuing have reported members of Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, Redding Police Department, California Fish and Game, and California Highway Patrol are assisting with the ongoing hunt for the person or persons responsible for the shooting.

SWAT members are also on scene and officials have been using unmanned drones and a CHP helicopter to search for the gunman from overhead. Although a CHP chopper had to break away from the search for a short time to refuel, another has since returned to the area of the ongoing search.

Sections of Dersch Rd. off Highway 44 in Shingletown remain closed at this time and the area is expected to remain closed until the conclusion of the initial on-scene investigation.

This is a developing story that will be updated as new information is available.
