Deputies assigned to the San Jacinto Sheriff’s Station, along with Cal Fire-Riverside firefighters and AMR personnel, were dispatched to the scene around 2 a.m., after receiving reports of a solo-vehicle rollover traffic collision.

911 callers reported the driver was unresponsive and trapped inside the mangled wreckage of the vehicle and that a power pole was sheered off at the base.

When officials arrived they found a heavily-damaged, dark-colored coupe that was upside down in a field adjacent the roadway.

The driver’s side door of the vehicle, which was left unrecognizable by the crash, was smashed inward, leaving fire personnel and paramedics initially unable to access the two victims inside the car.

Once officials were able to get into the vehicle, they determined the driver had already succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

A second person, the passenger from the car, was transported to an area hospital with unspecified injuries described by an officials at the scene as minor to moderate.

Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials have since identified the victim killed in the crash as Isaac Cruz, 20, of San Jacinto. A coroner’s release indicated he was pronounced deceased at the scene at 2:09 a.m.

While officials worked at the scene they called for the temporary closure of Ramona Blvd, and the roadway remained closed for several hours until deputies concluded their initial, on-scene investigation.

Although sheriff’s officials have not yet released any information regarding their ongoing investigation, evidence and statements from officials at the scene indicate Cruz was traveling on Ramona Blvd at an unknown speed when he lost control of his car, careened across the roadway, and knocked down a 45 mph speed limit sign before smashing broadside into the power pole.

The impact with the utility pole sheered it off at the base and caused the vehicle to overturn through a barbed wire fence before coming to rest upside down about forty to fifty feet into the field.
