The roadway was blocked for less than one hour and traffic is now moving unimpeded through the area.

Officials issued the alert about 15 minutes ago, at 11:51 a.m., saying that Caltrans workers are at the scene.

Contacted for more information, a Caltrans official advised there was no estimate for when the highway would be re-opened, telling SCNS that no traffic is being allowed to pass through the area.

All vehicles are either being forced to wait along the side of the highway while the work is being completed or being turned around to seek alternative routes around the ongoing work.

Caltrans also advised they would be posting updates as the work continues.

This is a developing story that will be updated as new information becomes available.
