Riverside Police and Fire departments, along with other emergency personnel, responded to the scene around 4:11 p.m., after receiving reports of a major-injury traffic collision, Riverside PD officials later said in a social media release.

When officials arrived the found a blue 1997 Ford F250 pickup truck with minor front-end damage blocking the roadway. A white 2014 Honda Civic with moderate driver’s side damage was found nearby against the side of the road.

Officials, who found there had been five occupants in the Honda, determined one of the passengers in the rear seat of the Civic sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Although neither of the involved drivers were injured in the crash, three passengers from the Honda were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Riverside PD.

Based on the circumstances, officers from the Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) were called to the scene and assumed the investigation. They were assisted by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office, who have not yet identified the victim killed in the collision.

During their subsequent investigation, officers determined the driver of the Ford, a Norco resident, was traveling west on Jurupa Avenue approaching Wilderness Avenue just before the collision.

At the same time the Honda, which was being driven by a North Hollywood woman, entered Jurupa Ave. from the stop sign at Wilderness Ave., traveling south across Jurupa Ave.

The Ford, which was not required to stop at the intersection and had the right of way, was not able to avoid a collision and struck the Honda broadside; killing the Honda’s rear, driver’s side passenger.

This is a developing story that will be updated as new information becomes available.
