UPDATE: Desert Hot Springs murder victim ID’d

DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif. — Authorities say a Desert Hot Springs felon who was already on probation from a 2018 felony spousal abuse conviction fatally shot a woman he was involved in a relationship with Saturday evening, Nov. 7.
The couple had several children together, according to Desert Hot Springs Deputy Chief Steven Shaw, who said the suspect was violating a restraining order barring him from coming into contact with the victim at the time of the deadly shooting.

Desert Hot Springs police officers were dispatched to the 66000 block of 8th Street around 7 p.m., where they found a woman with a single gunshot wound, according to Desert Hot Springs Deputy Chief Steven Shaw; who reported the victim succumbed to her gunshot wound and passed away at the scene.
Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials this morning identified 24-year-old, Amina Duro, as the woman killed in the shooting. A coroner’s release indicated she was pronounced deceased at 7:34 p.m.
Authorities have charged 28-year-old, Jesse Rico Valenzuela, in the shooting death of 24-year-old, Amino Duro. Officials say the couple had several children together and that Duro had a protective order against Valenzuela, barring him from having any contact with her. DHSPD photo
Records indicate officers located the alleged gunman, Jesse Rico Valenzuela, 28, of Desert Hot Springs, the following day and he was arrested on Jackson Street in Indio.
Online jail records indicate Valenzuela was booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree murder. He was also booked on misdemeanor charges of battery on a spouse or co-habitant as well as violating the court protective order intended to protect Amino.

Valenzuela remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail or bond and was scheduled to be arraigned at the Indio Larson Justice Center this morning.

He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.
Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
