Two arrested after attempted murder at Canyon Lake bar

CANYON LAKE, Calif. — Authorities say two men were arrested after a shooting and attempted murder at a Canyon Lake bar Friday afternoon, Nov. 20.

One of the arrested subjects was later booked on suspicion of attempted murder and other charges. The other man was booked on charges unrelated to the shooting after officials served a search warrant at a home where the shooting suspect was located and apprehended.

Deputies assigned to the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station responded to a bar in the 31000 block of Railroad Canyon Road around 1:20 p.m., after receiving reports of a shooting, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant Julio Olguin later said of the incident and arrests.

By the time deputies arrived at the scene the suspected gunman had already fled the area, according to Olguin; who did not say if anyone was struck by the suspect’s gunfire.

During their subsequent investigation, deputies developed leads and gathered information that led them to identifying 39-year-old, Cody Hill, from Wildomar, as the suspected shooter.

Based on their developed leads, deputies responded to Hill’s residence in the 34000 Block of Jennifer Drive, in Wildomar where Hill was arrested without incident.

Deputies also detained a second subject who lives at the home with Hill, later identified as 38-year-old, Paola Jimenez.

In an effort to locate the firearm used in the shooting, members of the Lake Elsinore Station’s Investigations Bureau and Problem Oriented Policing Team assisted by obtaining a search warrant for Hill’s residence.

During the subsequent service of the search warrant, officials located “five shotguns, four handguns, a California non-compliant rifle, eleven additional rifles and over 2,500 live rounds of miscellaneous ammunition,” according to Olguin.

Based on their investigation, officials arrested Hill and he was later booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon/firearm and discharging a firearm in a negligent manner.

Online jail records indicate Hill remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail or bond and is scheduled to be arraigned at Murrieta’s Southwest Detention Center Nov. 24.

Paola was also arrested for being a convicted felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and was also later booked into Cois Byrd Detention Center, according to Olguin.
