Woman confirmed dead after Valle Vista blaze

VALLE VISTA, Calif. — Officials have confirmed that one person was killed when an early morning blaze ripped through a Valle Vista mobile home overnight, Tuesday, Dec. 15.

The fire, which leveled the home to the ground and destroyed at least two vehicles, happened at the Fairview Park Mobile Home Estates on the 44700 block of SR-74, east of Lincoln Avenue.

Cal Fire-Riverside and Soboba firefighters, along with AMR and other emergency personnel, were dispatched to the mobile home park around 4:40 a.m., after receiving reports of a fully-involved structure fire involving a single-wide mobile home.

When firefighters arrived they found area residents trying desperately to control the fire with garden hoses; however they were pushed back by the intensity of the flames.

“Our first arriving units encountered a single mobile home well involved with heavy fire and reports of a victim trapped,” Cal Fire Captain Don Camp told RCNS affiliate reporter, Nathan Wilking of RVC News at the scene.

“Once we were advised that there was a possible resident trapped we went into what is referred to as rescue mode and mounted an aggressive fire attack in an attempt to rescue the victim,” Camp continued; adding that the fire was knocked down and brought under control around 5:20 a.m.

“Sadly, the victim did succumb to her injuries in the building,” the Captain reported.

The victim has been reported to be a woman in her 60s.

“She was very healthy and active in the community and always helping others,” one witness said from the scene of the deadly blaze.

Although the victim’s name has been shared in various social media posts, her name has not yet been officially released, pending positive identification and notification of her family. Due to the active and ongoing investigation and out of respect for the victim and her family, RCNS has elected to not publish her name at this time.

“Right now we have representatives from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Cal Fire law enforcement/Fire Prevention Bureau, and Riverside County Coroner’s Office conducting an investigation,” said Camp.

As of this report, it was unknown if a cat who lived with the victim made it out of the blaze alive.

Cal Fire and other emergency personnel remained at the scene for the remainder of the morning and were still working to identify the source of the deadly blaze.

Their investigation is ongoing.
