Lab24 in Redding announces free holiday COVID-19 testing

REDDING, Calif. — With Christmas and the new year fast approaching and the ongoing, months-long COVID-19 public health crisis and pandemic on the forefront of people’s thoughts and concerns, Lab24 in Redding has announced free holiday COVID-19 testing for all North State region families and businesses.

Lab24, a fully licensed and accredited reference laboratory headquartered in Redding, is a premier provider of Urine and Oral Fluid Toxicology Testing and uses molecular polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology, the most cutting-edge and advanced toxicology testing technology currently available in the industry.

Dedicated to ensuring their clients that the results they receive are accurate, personalized, and professional, LAB24 told SCNS that the PCR test is great for families and companies that are looking for rapid results just before the holidays. Samples are all processed in Shasta County, and results can be delivered in as quickly as 24 hours on weekdays.

Recognized by the FDA as the most accurate and reliable form of COVID-19 testing, PCR (nasal swab testing) detects the presence of COVID-19 genetic material (RNA) using a technique called reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, or RT-PCR. RNA is extracted from your sample and transcribed to DNA. The DNA is then amplified – with many copies made – so the lab can obtain a meaningful result.

“Our free COVID-19 test provides residents and businesses with peace of mind during the holidays,” explained John Serle, CEO of Lab24. “If you’re a local employer, we especially encourage you to let your employees know that you’re looking out for their health and wellbeing.”

“During these difficult times, let’s all come together and make sure everyone has access to safe and reliable testing,” Serle continued.

Those seeking the test will need to fill out a simple form with basic contact information before answering a few questions related to COVID-19 exposure, as well as explaining any symptoms they may be experiencing.

LAB24 will also collect your insurance information, if you have it. If you do not have insurance the lab will bill the Federal CARES act.

“So either way there is no cost to you,” explained Serle.

During the test, LAB24’s trained lab personnel will swipe a sterile nasal swab about ¾ inches into your nose. The swab will be “swirled” for about 10 seconds in each nostril and then the test is complete.

“We do not need to do the invasive deep nasal swab that some have called the ‘brain tickler’,” Serle explained; saying, “Our swab technique provides accurate results with maximum comfort.”
