Kidnapped from Hemet and dumped in Lake Elsinore, woman safe, man arrested

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. — Out of jail on bail from other recent alleged crimes, a Lake Elsinore man was arrested again after deputies say he kidnapped a woman from the Hemet area Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 9. Authorities say the suspect eventually forced the victim out of his car in Lake Elsinore and stole her purse before driving off.

Deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station were first alerted to the incident at 3:18 p.m. when a woman called 911 from the 33000 block of El Contento Drive and reported being assaulted, Riverside Sheriff’s Sergeant R. Thomas has since said of the incident and arrest.

The woman, whose name and age have not been released, told investigating deputies that she was forcefully driven from the Hemet area to Lake Elsinore by a man, since identified as 46-year-old, Rene Perez.

“The victim attempted several times to get out of the car, but wasn’t allowed to by the suspect,” explained Thomas. “Once in Lake Elsinore, the victim was forced out of the car and the suspect left the location with the victim’s purse.”

Although officials did not say how or if the victim and suspect knew each other, the woman was able to provide deputies with information that Perez was employed at a business located in the 16500 block of Lakeshore Drive, about two and a half miles from where she had been forced out of his car.

“Deputies responded to the location, contacted the suspect … and detained him for further investigation,” the Sergeant continued; adding that based on their investigation deputies arrested Perez.
