Suspect sought in Menifee hit and run that killed Hemet woman

Menifee, Calif. — Officials are continuing to search for the driver of a pickup truck who fled the scene after running over and killing a Hemet woman late Friday evening, March 5. Officials have described the vehicle as a large, full-size pickup truck, possibly a 4500 Dodge Ram, and have said the vehicle could possibly have driver’s side, front-end damage.

The fatal accident happened in the area of 27300 Highway 74, east of Trumble Road, in the Romoland area of Menifee, according to officials.

City of Menifee Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the scene around 11:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision, Menifee Police Lieutenant Abigail Valle later said of the incident and ongoing investigation

When officials arrived they found a woman down in the roadway, according to Valle; who said the victim was critically injured and unresponsive.

The first officers to arrive immediately began life-saving measures and continued until Cal Fire paramedics arrived a short time later and took over efforts to save the woman. Despite their efforts, the victim was eventually pronounced deceased at the scene.

The vehicle involved in the collision had fled the scene prior to officials’ arrival and its driver has not been located.

Members of Menifee Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded and assumed the investigation.

“During the investigation, traffic investigators located evidence suggesting the vehicle that hit the pedestrian may be a large framed full-sized pick-up truck, possibly a Dodge Ram 4500 model,” Valle explained; adding, “The truck should have moderate damage to the front driver side area.”
