With speeds nearing 100 mph cited, San Jacinto speed enforcement operation nets 36

SAN JACINTO, Calif. — “Were you watching your speed this morning? We were,” deputies from San Jacinto said today after a two-hour speed enforcement operation yielded 36 speeding citations – with at least one driver caught driving more than 90 mph earlier today.

The enforcement operation follows numerous recent major injury and fatal traffic collisions on Sanderson Avenue near Ramona Expressway and the surrounding areas and follows a similar speed enforcement operation conducted by CHP earlier this month. That three-hour operation yielded a total of 23 citations, where speeding was the primary violation cited, CHP reported at the time

Two of the recent fatal accidents that led to CHP’s crackdown include a multi-vehicle wreck that killed two children and two adults on Thursday, Feb. 11, and another fatal, chain-reaction crash involving a big rig that caused a nine vehicle collision that killed one person and critically injured several others the previous Monday.

Other recent fatal accidents include a person was killed and another who was hospitalized after a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Ramona Expressway, between Avalon Parkway and Bradley Road, and two people who were killed in a fiery wreck on the expressway, west of Warren Road.

Over a two-hour period from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. this morning, several members of the San Jacinto Sheriff Station’s Traffic Team targeted the troublesome area, pulling over countless vehicles in the process.

During the operation, a total of 36 drivers were cited, with one driver caught traveling in excess of 90 mph, according to officials; who later wrote, “Speed is the most common factor in causing a collision,” in their social media release.

“Please observe the speed limit and drive safe,” officials cautioned; adding, “See you out there.”
