Weapons, drugs, gaming machines seized, Perris illegal gambling operation shuttered

PERRIS, Calif. — Authorities say one man was arrested and charges are pending against a second person after a multi-agency investigation in an unincorporated area of Perris that targeted an illegal gambling operation Thursday, April 15.

Two handguns, a large quantity of narcotics, and thousands of dollars in US currency were discovered and seized during the early morning service of a search warrant in the 21000 block of Mountain Avenue, northwest of Reed and Olive streets.

As part of an ongoing investigation, at 5 a.m., members of the Murrieta-Temecula Regional Gang Task Force with assistance from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau, the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station Special Enforcement Team, the Murrieta Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team, and special agents from the Department of Justice Bureau of Gaming Control (Riverside Regional Office) served a search warrant at the Mountain View address, Murrieta / Temecula Regional Gang Task Force Sergeant S. Dyer later said of the incident and arrest.

“As a result of the search warrant, detectives recovered two loaded handguns, over 1000 suspected Fentanyl pills, over ¼ pound of suspected Fentanyl powder, approximately two ounces of heroin, approximately ½ ounce of suspected methamphetamine, and several thousand dollars,” explained Dyer.

Ten large gaming machines believed to be related to an illegal gambling operation were also seized as evidence.

During the service of the search warrant, officials contacted Danny Rodriguez, a documented criminal street gang member, who was arrested and later booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on numerous felony charges related to drug sales, weapons possession, and illegal gambling, according to Dyer.

“Additional filings are anticipated against a second resident detained during the warrant service,” said the Sergeant.
