REDDING, Calif. — Officials have identified a man who was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and was ejected into another vehicle Wednesday afternoon, April 21. The fatal accident happened near the intersection of Railroad Avenue at Eugenia Avenue.

Shasta County Chief Deputy Coroner Lieutenant Stonehouse today identified 59-year-old, Sammy Ray Hartzog, of Millville, California, as the man killed in the crash.

The case remains under investigation by the Redding Police Department.

REDDING, Calif. — Authorities say a motorcyclist was killed in a collision involving another vehicle Wednesday afternoon, April 21. The deadly accident happened on Railroad Avenue at Eugenia Avenue.

City of Redding Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to the scene at 4:19 p.m. after SHASCOM emergency dispatchers received multiple reports of a motorcycle versus vehicle traffic collision, Redding Police Department Traffic Unit Sergeant Jeff Schmidt later reported.

When officials arrived at the scene they determined the rider of the motorcycle had already succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

The victim’s name has not been released, pending notification of the rider’s family; however one official at the scene described the victim as being a man in his 50s or 60s.

The occupants of the other involved vehicle were uninjured.

Based on the circumstances, members of Redding Police Department’s Traffic Unit was summoned to the scene to investigate the cause  is investigating the cause of the collision.

During their initial investigation officers determined the motorcycle was travelling southbound on Railroad Avenue at an unknown rate of speed, approaching the intersection of Eugenia Avenue.

At the same time, the driver of a 2016 Toyota Avalon was preparing to exit the parking lot of Owens Pharmacy, at 2950 Eugenia Avenue.

“For unknown reasons, the motorcyclist lost control and was ejected, striking the Toyota,” explained Schmidt; who said, “Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision at this time.”
