Man arrested after fatal rollover crash with ejection near Montague – DUI suspected

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. — Authorities say a man was arrested on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter after a solo-vehicle rollover crash that left his passenger dead late Sunday night, May 16th.

The victim died after he was ejected when the vehicle overturned, while traveling on Ager Beswick Road east of Little Bogus Creek Road, about fifteen miles north of Montague, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP has since reported that 33-year-old, Joshua Keith Justice was driving eastbound on Ager Beswick Road when, for unknown reasons, he allowed his vehicle to drift off the side of the roadway.

Justice overcorrected, causing his vehicle to careen out of control and overturn, according to CHP.

Justice’s passenger, described as a 54-year-old man, was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the overturning vehicle, causing him to sustain fatal traumatic injuries. Officials have not released the victim’s name, pending further investigation and notification of the man’s family. It was not immediately known how, or if, Justice was related to the victim killed in the crash.

Justice was treated for his injuries and later arrested. He was then booked into the Siskiyou County Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI resulting in injury. He was also booked for an unspecified misdemeanor warrant for failing to appear in another case.

Online jail records indicate Justice remains in custody in lieu of $10,000 bail or bond.

The deadly crash remains under investigation.
