MT. SHASTA, Calif. — Authorities say a sexual battery investigation involving a Mt. Shasta B&B led to the  arrest of the location’s keeper/host on Tuesday, May 18.

Officials say they do not believe this was the first incident involving the alleged suspect and have asked for potential victims with more information and details about the man’s reported criminal activities to come forward.

The Mount Shasta Police Department began their investigation around 2 p.m. on May 16th when a woman reported she was sexually assaulted by David Roy Knowles, 73, the keeper/host of the Shasta MountInn Retreat & Spa on Birch Street, Mt. Shasta Police Department said yesterday in a social media release.

The B&B features a Victorian-era farmhouse that was built in 1904 by master carpenter and then-Mayor of Mount Shasta, Richie Edson. The B&B also offers a sauna and massage services, which are provided by Knowles. According to the B&B’s website, which has since been taken down, Knowles purchased the farm about 16 years ago and later opened the home as a B&B in 2005. All other social media accounts related to the B&B have also been taken offline since Knowles’ arrest.

After further investigation, on May 18th, officials arrested Knowles and he was booked into Siskiyou County Jail for sexual battery and other related charges, according to officials.

“The investigation is currently ongoing and it is believed that this is not the first incident,” officials have since explained; adding that if you or anyone you know was victimized by Knowles while staying at or visiting the MountInn Retreat & Spa to contact their department at (530) 926-7540.
