City of Mount Shasta police and fire personnel were dispatched to N. Mt. Shasta Boulevard around 3:45 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of a vehicle that had been involved in several crashes, Mt. Shasta Police Department has since said.

When officers arrived they found a black 2018 Kia Forte partially underneath grey Dodge Ram pickup truck. Both vehicles sustained major damage from the collision.

Officers found the driver of the vehicle, whose name has not been released, walking away from the scene of the crash and contacted him.

Officers immediately began treating the victim for his visible injuries sustained in the multiple collisions and continued providing medical aid until paramedics arrived. The man was then transported to Dignity Health Mercy Mount Shasta for treatment of his injuries.

During their subsequent investigation, officers determined the driver had been traveling northbound on N. Mt. Shasta Boulevard when he suffered a medical crisis. The medical emergency caused him to black out and lose control of his vehicle.

As the man’s car careened out of control it went over a sidewalk where it then struck a tree, followed by an unoccupied vehicle that was parked in the parking lot of Point S Tire Shop, between E. Hinckley and E. Field streets.

When Point S employees ran to the aid of the injured driver he woke up and drove away, according to officials; who said that as the man began to leave the scene he then suffered a second medical crisis that caused him to black out again.

The driver’s sedan then plowed into a row of parked vehicles across the street from Brook’s Automotive, just north of Fee Road, about a mile from the scene of the first crashes.

Mt. Shasta PD acting Chief Robert Gibson today told SCNS that a total of six vehicles were damaged in yesterday’s crashes.

The Chief also said that due to the victim’s medical crisis no charges are expected and that drug and/or alcohol intoxication are not suspected to be contributing factors in the series of crashes.

Mt. Shasta PD’s collision investigation is ongoing.
