Investigation continuing after elderly woman’s body found near Menifee storm drain

MENIFEE, Calif. — Officials in Menifee are continuing to investigate the death of a woman, whose body was found at the opening of a storm drain yesterday morning, Wednesday, June 2. The elderly victim’s body was found in the area of Murrieta Road, between Chambers Avenue and Clubhouse Drive, the entrance to the Hillside Mobilehome Estates.

Officials have said they are looking for several community members who may have had interactions with the victim shortly before her body was discovered.

Menifee Police officers and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene shortly before 11 a.m. after receiving reports of a possibly deceased woman, Menifee Police Lieutenant Denise Keith reported this afternoon.

When officers and medical personnel arrived they found the victim near the edge of Murrieta Road, “at the opening of a storm drain,” Keith explained.

The victim has since been identified as 68-year-old Menifee resident, Sandra Hickam.

“Upon (contact) with the female, officers observed obvious signs of death,” the Lieutenant continued; saying that Menifee detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Although no signs of foul play were observed, detectives are seeking several community members who were in the area of Murrieta Road and Chambers Avenue and “may have had contact with Ms. Hickam while she was walking,” said Keith.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to Hickam’s death and have asked that anyone with information that can help with their investigation to contact the Menifee Police Department Investigations Division at (951) 723-1500 or the City’s anonymous tip line at (951) 723-1600. He finished his career while working as a Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Investigator and was a court-designated expert in child abuse and child sex-related crimes.

Trevor has been married for more than 30 years and was a foster parent to more than 60 children over 13 years. He is now an adoptive parent and his “fluid family” includes 13 children and 18 grandchildren.
