City of Menifee police officers were dispatched to a private residence in the 27000 block of Terrytown Road at around 7:10 a.m. after the alleged gunman called 911 and reported that he had just shot his wife, Menifee Police Lieutenant Denise Keith later reported.

“The caller contacted dispatch to request medical aid after admitting he shot his wife,” Keith explained. “After a few moments of silence, the call taker heard a gunshot as officers were arriving on scene.”

“Officers entered the residence to check for injured victims and found an adult female in her 70’s and an adult male in his 70’s inside the residence,” the Lieutenant continued. “The adult female had two gunshot wounds to her upper body and the adult male had a single gunshot wound to his upper body.”

Paramedics arrived a few minutes later and attempted to perform life-saving measures on the couple; however the woman succumbed to her two gunshot injuries and passed away at the scene.

The man was transported to a local hospital where he died a short time after arriving.

Menifee PD detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the location and ultimately assumed the investigation.

“The preliminary investigation revealed the male shot the female for an unknown reason and then shot himself prior to police entering the residence,” said Keith; adding, “Investigators determined this was an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community.”
